Unspoken Punctuation

And God said
What did He say?
What does He say to me?

I heard Him say “ I want you to
Write about hope”, one day
But the period I did not see

Some words are written, some spoken in air
Punctuation matters, it matters not where
Oh, I’ve had my suspicions, now it’s quite crystal clear
When God uses words, take heed what you hear

But first open your heart lest your ears hear a gong
Without His Spirit inside you acoustics warp and sound wrong
Even the mentally astute can mistake a note
Forget an umbrella, wear the wrong coat

Be left in the cold or stand out in the rain
A true Savior will save you because He knows your true name
And should it be, even then, you still falter and fail
Just get up and start over, Christ in you will always prevail

P.S. About words, they are as eternal as God
And I’m made in His image, so don’t think me so odd
If I write till these fingers drop from my palms
My mouth, that’s another issue, would you pray it stay calm?

There are 615 references for “God said” in the King James Version of the Bible. If He spoke to people then, I think He is able to speak with people today.

About Mary (tqhousecat)

I am married, and a mother of two grown children. I love Jesus and sharing my faith through written words. My poetry is on my blog and you can find some previous stories on Medium and linked-in. My focus is hope in Christ. My desire is that whoever reads this will be blessed, inspired, occasionally amused, kind, and patient to my growth in Christ as He conforms me to His image.

Amen: “When God uses words, take heed what you hear”
