A Change of Season

Summer is acting like a child. One day she is full-faced and laughing. The next she hides under the covers of the clouds and on go the sweaters. I still keep the long sleeves at reach. Each year seems the same. We cherish the warm sun when we can, but why is my favorite always the season short-lived? Strawberry shortcake is on my mind, and the blueberries are to follow. No matter her mood, she always delivers.
Heavy taste buds bow
To sun’s lighter fresh bounty
Time of bright color

dVersepoetspub.com. It is haibun Monday. Today we are to be unconventional and bend the rules a little. I don’t know if I really pulled this off, but the haiku I tried to exclude the traditional 4 seasons for a different type of season.

About Mary (tqhousecat)

I am a wife and a mother of two grown children. I love Jesus and sharing my faith through written words. I currently have a poetry blog and also write on medium.com. My main focus is hope in Christ. I only wish that whoever reads this will be blessed, inspired and occasionally amused.

  1. Good morning, dear Mary, I am praying for you today. Strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite things. Thank you for this reminder summer has its own gifts. It has moved to the bottom of my season list.

It’s a beautiful poem. It really tells us to enjoy life when it’s happening because it won’t be for long. Love and blessings, Hanna

The fickle weather keeps one yearning for something else. Nice observation about nature delivering no matter her mood.

  6. Weather in summer is such a devious thing… so far we have had more than our usual share… hope that it lasts when vacation comes.

  7. I think this works very well. The weather has played fast and loose with us. It is strawberry shortcake time!

Summer is too short here so I love the warmth, no matter the unpredictable rains ~ Hope you are having a good summer ~
