Lessons in the wood

She walked through the forest flora and fauna, her eyes agaze at the multitude of species. Each tree, sprig and blossom, from the tallest to the smallest, appeared content in its place. A squirrel scampered by, undisturbed by the woodpecker drumming loudly against the Oak.

She sat down on a large rock. Tiny insects gathered to see the obstruction, but did not try to push it out of their way. It became an accepted path to their destination, one only they alone knew.

Later, reading her stories and poems, she sensed a strange sense of solidarity within variety. It wasn’t the words, for it could have been any, but the calling by which she wrote. “Reading what I have just written, I now believe I am a writer.”

Nature teaches you to live your purpose and leave it at that.

Dversepoets.com Prosery Monday. Incorporate a line from a famous poem into a short prose. It can be flash fiction, non fiction or creative fiction. I guess this is creative flash fiction, with a tinted lining of nonfiction? Exactly 144 words.

The line is “Reading what I have just written, I now believe”

The poem is from Louise Gluck’s book “Faithful and Virtuous Night” and the poem “Afterward”

I love this realization and then affirmation that yes, I am a writer! 🙂
Some people need the confirmation of others to come to this realization; others simply need to look at their words one day, perhaps in a particular setting or over a cup of coffee or a martini, read them once, then twice and then it hits them! 🙂
Wouldn’t it be interesting to know what motivated each of our dVerse participants to start their blogs?

Beautifully descriptive interlude in the woods, and skillful use of the sentence required.
