Dare We Be Unmasked?

Who is who
I thought I knew
Today it changed from yesterday
A different character he plays
I saw him in a romance swooning
Today the damsel he is drowning
But that is why we love the screen
The actors changing with the scene
The script is writ
The plot is set
The masks are on for us to see
We leave believing it’s he or she
But meet them on the street you know
No mask you’ve ever seen will show
And this one who can trust to sight
Only God knows dark from light
And my own masks I wear well awhile
But when removed a truer smile
For painted grins on bleeding hearts
Find no rest

Painted grins find no rest. A more natural smile is best. Nice sound.

Love the last two lines, not only for the message but the contrast in cadence.
