Sunday dinners and long, lazy afternoon drives in summer
Going nowhere but together
Tore some apart forever
Sunday, now a day of commerce
Blue laws gone
What we called progress
Slow and subtle
Masked, renamed
New rules for an age old game
If one rule can change, why not all
One by one, watch us fall
As bees are dying
Food is lack
They feed the world, ask for nothing back
Technology gets smarter still
While common sense runs downhill
Obesity becomes a plan
To sell the gym and diet scams
If we really cared for people’s health
We’d take the sugar off the shelf
We cry of things that slowly leave
While baiting us to always need
Within a world that seeks attraction
There will never be true satisfaction

Prompt: A poem with a secret. Alluding to but not naming the subject. Any guesses?

About Mary (tqhousecat)

I am a wife and a mother of two grown children. Recently I have begun writing a couple of blogs. One poetry and one on hope. I only wish that whoever reads this will be blessed, inspired and occasionally amused. Soon to be added is another blog...writings on hope from a biblical perspective. Now it can be seen at please feel free to visit.
